In an effort to promote the importance of workplace safety among the next generation of construction workers, OSHA is set to participate in the 2024 Construction Ready Career Expo.
According to a release dated Feb. 13, it is among the largest student-targeted career events in the region. Aimed at students from Georgia's middle, high and technical schools, the expo will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta on February 22 and 23, 2024.
The 2024 Construction Ready Career Expo will spotlight the broad range of construction careers as well as emphasize the role of safety throughout the industry. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with exhibits featuring the latest equipment, and industry professionals will be available to discuss career paths and the skills required in the construction sector.
"Connecting with the thousands of students who walk through the doors and sharing the value of job safety is exactly what our OSHA team is passionate about," OSHA Regional Administrator Kurt Petermeyer in Atlanta said in a statement. "We participated in 2023, and we're thrilled to join this event again. It is a great way for students to explore careers in skilled trades. The career expo also gives OSHA an excellent opportunity to partner with industry leaders and educators of these prospective construction workers."
The expo is part of OSHA's Young Worker Initiative, which aims to provide teens, parents, educators and employers with the resources they need to ensure safe work experiences. All attendees must follow safety protocols—such as wearing hard hats, safety glasses, long pants and closed-toe shoes—to transform the venue into a simulated construction site.
More than 9,000 people are expected to attend the 2024 Construction Ready Career Expo. Created in 1993 as the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA), Construction Ready is a nonprofit organization focused on elevating the construction industry through recruitment, training and networking initiatives.
