Electrical Safety: New Approaches to Battery Safety, Risk Assessment and Sectionalizing
Date: Thursday, November 19, 2026 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT
The 2027 edition of NFPA 70E introduces important changes to how organizations assess and manage electrical hazards associated with batteries and battery energy storage systems. With the expanded requirements of Article 360, safety professionals must consider the unique risks of stored electrical energy and understand why conventional electrical safety practices may not adequately address them.
Join us for an in-depth webinar examining the updated battery safety requirements in NFPA 70E 2027, including battery risk assessments, shock and arc flash hazards, contact thermal and chemical hazards, and the concept of establishing a lower-risk work condition through battery sectionalizing.
The discussion will explore how sectionalizing can reduce electrical risks when batteries cannot be fully de-energized, along with practical considerations for developing procedures, selecting protective measures and preparing workers to perform battery-related tasks safely.
Attendees will learn:
- What's changed in the battery safety provisions of NFPA 70E 2027, including Article 360.
- How to approach battery risk assessments involving shock, arc flash, contact thermal and chemical hazards.
- What battery sectionalizing means and how it helps establish a lower-risk work condition.
- How to incorporate the updated requirements into electrical safety procedures, worker training and hazard controls.
