OSHA Renews Alliance with American Chemistry Council

The five-year alliance will help protect workers who handle chemicals like diisocyanates.

OSHA and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) renewed the alliance that protects the health and safety of workers who handle diisocyanates on September 30, 2020.

Diisocyanates, a compound that is used to make polyurethane, is one of the chemicals that the five-year alliance will work to shield workers from. It is used to make things like insulation, foam mattresses and shoes. The alliance will also promote information that addresses health and safety issues that affect workers within the polyurethanes value chain.

“OSHA’s renewed alliance with the American Chemistry Council will help ensure that employers and employees in the polyurethane industry are able to recognize the hazards associated with these chemicals, and implement the methods to control employee exposures,” said Loren Sweatt, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA.

The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry and the Diisocyanates and Aliphatic Diisocyanates panels are a few of the ACC groups included in the alliance.
