FMCSA Declares Trucking Company an Imminent Hazard to Public Safety
An investigation into an accident led to the decision
The FMCSA has ordered Industrial Transit, Inc. of LaGrange, Georgia to stop all operations after an investigation determined the company is an imminent hazard to public safety.
On August 22, an Industrial Transit truck transporting Takata air bags went off the road, rolled over, and caught fire, leading to an explosion of air bag components. The explosion leveled a nearby house as well as damaging others. The occupant of the leveled house was killed.
FMCSA determined the company violated multiple safety regulations, including: failing to comply with driver qualification requirements, failing to implement a random alcohol and drug testing program for its drivers, failing to ensure its vehicles were regularly inspected, and more.
