SPY Award Presented to Indian Safety Manager

Krisha Nirmalya Sen received this year's Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year award.

ORLANDO -- Krishna Nirmalya Sen has received the 2014 Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year award from ASSE for his work in promoting occupational health and safety in India. The award was announced during Safety 2014 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Sen is the deputy general manager of safety for L&T Hydrocarbon Construction & Pipelines in India. ASSE's announcement said he has developed many technical safety programs to improve competency and performance, and projects he has directed have won safety and occupational health awards from the British Safety Council and the National Safety Council of India. Sen was instrumental in the 2012 launch of the ASSE India Chapter, which hosted its first Professional Development Conference last month.

This award is given in honor of Edgar Monsanto Queeny, who was president of Monsanto on April 16, 1947, when the explosion of the SS Grandcamp, a French freighter filled with ammonium nitrate, destroyed Monsanto's Texas City, Texas, plant and killed 512 people, including 145 Monsanto employees. The catastrophe caused him to place even more emphasis on safety in the company's operations. The Monsanto Company sponsors the award.
