One Dead, 29 Hurt in South Africa Shopping Mall Collapse

The mall in Tongaat was under construction when its roof collapsed Nov. 19, according to South African media reports.

Searchers have completed their work through the rubble of a collapsed roof at a shopping mall under construction in Tongaat, South Africa and reported no workers remain trapped. One person died and 29 workers were injured in the Nov. 19 collapse, according to South African media reports.

The site is located north of Durban. The online newspaper Mail & Guardian reported that one source said the collapse occurred when the back wall of the mall collapsed.

The newspaper's latest report said searchers went over the site with dogs trying to locate anyone beneath the jumble of concrete and called off the search after concluding no one remained to be found.
