Las Vegas will Soon Boast World's Largest Rooftop Solar Installation

The 20,000-panel solar installation will be on the roof of the Mandalay Bay Resort Convention Center.

Las Vegas will soon be home to one of the world’s most expansive solar power systems. NRG Energy has released plans to install a 6.2 megawatt solar power system on the roof of the Mandalay Bay Resort Convention Center, which will be the largest rooftop installation in the world.

This installation should take care of about 20 percent of the building’s energy consumption. It will also reduce pressure on the location’s grid during the hottest parts of the day.

Consisting of about 20,000 solar panels, this step will reduce energy costs and consumption, and is all part of Mandalay Bay’s Green Advantage Sustainability Initiative.

Through the course of this initiative, which began five years ago, Mandalay Bay has reduced energy consumption by more than 12 percent and has saved 2.5 billion gallons of water.
