Allstate's Drive Wise Availability Expands
The usage-based auto insurance policy became available in four more states Oct. 8 and will be in three additional states in November, the company recently announced.
Drive Wise, an Allstate auto insurance policy that is provides discounts based on how the customer drives, became available in four more states on Oct. 8. It will be available in three additional states in November, with the expansion continuing in 2013, according to the company.
Drive Wise uses telematics technology to measure mileage, speed, time of day when the vehicle is being driven, and braking. Allstate bases a driving discount for each customer on these data; the company's announcement of the expansion said more than 150 million miles have been recorded thus far, and drivers who earned a discount have averaged savings of nearly 14 percent per vehicle.
The basic benchmarks are these:
- Drivers who average around 35-40 miles per day or less are more likely to save.
- Drivers who stay below 80 mph could see more savings.
- Drivers who avoid the road from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. will save more.
- Drivers save more by avoiding hard stops.
