AIHA Connect 2024 Closing Session Inspires Innovation Through Neuroscience

Dr. Helena Boschi closed the annual event with insights on enhancing cognitive agility and creative thinking.

Hosted by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), AIHA Connect 2024—the annual conference formerly known as the AIHce EXP—concluded on Wednesday, May 22, with a closing session discussing the science behind innovation.

Dr. Helena Boschi, an applied neuroscience psychologist, led the session titled "The Neuroscience of Innovation – and How to Develop New Insights." Dr. Boschi addressed the audience with a detailed exploration of how our brains manage sensory information and the limitations of our attentional systems, which guide perception and focus.

Dr. Boschi’s session challenged attendees to stretch their thinking and move beyond the narrow perspectives often shaped by their individual areas of expertise. She emphasized the role divergent and exploratory thinking plays in developing innovation. The session was also available virtually for those who could not attend in person.

In her work, Dr. Boschi focuses on brain behavior, emotional and rational neural networks, and cognitive improvement. She has researched cognitive biases, corporate psychopaths and work-induced stress. For over 25 years, Dr. Boschi has worked globally in organizational behavior, leadership, and talent management.

Her closing session’s focus on questioning norms and pushing boundaries to create new ideas—even within a professional context—served as the perfect note on which to end AIHA Connect 2024. After all, continuing to learn new and better ways to exceed as well as how to enhance one’s own ability to change things is what the event is all about.
