The agency submitted the regulation to the state Office of Administrative Law on Oct 25; interested parties have until Oct. 30 to submit comments on it, and OAL has until Nov. 5 to review and adopt or deny the regulation.
The report defines safety as elimination, minimization, or management of harm to the public, possibly including animals and property.
The 9.5 percent increase from PY2017 was driven by the transit of liquefied petroleum gas and natural liquefied gas carriers, containerships, chemical tankers, and vehicle carriers.
A new Highway Code from England's Department for Transport will help keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on the roads, Transport Minister Jesse Norman announced recently. The government’s review follows the release of road casualty figures showing that 101 cyclists died in 2017 in road traffic collisions.
FTA's minimum random testing rate was lowered from 50 percent to 25 percent in 2007 and has remained there since then. But the violation rate in 2017 was 1.06 percent, requiring the agency to increase the random testing rate back to 50 percent.
"These advanced applications show the potential for data-driven safety solutions that the department wants to support," said Under Secretary of Transportation Derek Kan.
The seven bridges over I-676 were rebuilt in two major stages to minimize traffic impacts. The original two-span bridges, which were constructed in the late 1950s, all were replaced with single-span structures that do not require a center pier in the middle of I-676.
