OSHA Renews Alliance to Boost Safety in Recycling Sector

A new two-year agreement between OSHA and the Recycled Materials Association will provide resources and training to help employers and workers reduce hazards in the recycling sector.

OSHA has renewed its national alliance with the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), aimed at improving safety and health for workers in the recycling industry nationwide.

The two-year agreement calls for OSHA and ReMA to develop and distribute safety resources, including articles, fact sheets, and toolkits, to help employers and workers address major workplace hazards. Priority topics include transportation safety, musculoskeletal injuries, slips, trips and falls, needlestick injuries, lithium battery incidents, hazardous energy control, and heat and cold stress.

The alliance also provides for joint participation at industry events, conferences, and forums, with an emphasis on reaching small- and medium-sized employers who may lack access to comprehensive safety programs.

The collaboration is part of OSHA’s Alliance Program, which partners with trade associations, unions, educational institutions, and other organizations to promote safer workplaces and raise awareness of occupational health risks.
