OSHA Cites Illinois Contractor for Repeated Fall Protection Violations

Corner Construction faces $266,175 in penalties after its fifth OSHA citation in two years.

OSHA has cited Zion, Illinois-based contractor with a history of workplace safety violations for failing to protect workers from fall hazards.

According to a recent release, the agency issued three citations and proposed $266,175 in penalties to Miguel A. Esquina Reyes, operating as Corner Construction Corp., after an August 2024 inspection at a residential roofing site. The citations include one willful, one repeat and one serious violation for allowing employees to work at heights greater than six feet without proper fall protection and for the unsafe use of ladders.

“OSHA often finds contractors violating the same safety regulations repeatedly because they believe their workers will not fall victim to injury. It takes just seconds to lose footing, to fall off a roof and suffer serious and all-too-often fatal injuries,” OSHA Chicago North Area Director Sukhvir Kaur in Arlington Heights, Illinois, said in a statement. “Miguel Reyes continues to show a chronic disregard for safe work operations and a willingness to jeopardize his employees’ lives and well-being.”

This marks the fifth citation issued to the company in two years. In February 2024, OSHA fined Corner Construction $19,015 for a repeat violation at a Downers Grove worksite. Additionally, the company has accumulated $82,000 in unpaid OSHA penalties from inspections conducted in 2022 and 2023.
