The U.S. Department of Labor is now accepting nominations for 15 member seats within its Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH).
According to a recent release, MACOSH hopes to fill all seats by January 6, 2025. The committee addresses safety concerns in shipyards, longshoring and commercial fishing. Its purpose is to guide the Secretary of Labor in developing safety standards and policies under the Occupational Safety and Health Act for maritime industries.
Selected members will serve two-year terms upon appointment. MACOSH convenes twice annually to deliberate on safety standards, strategies, and policy administration.
Nominees must demonstrate a strong interest in worker safety and health within these industries. The committee seeks diverse perspectives—including representatives from employers, employees, safety organizations, academia, government agencies and the public—to ensure well-rounded input on the safety challenges of maritime workers.
Interested parties can nominate or self-nominate by submitting the required materials via the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Additional details are listed in the Federal Register.
