The annual AIHA Connect conference completed its opening day of programming in New Orleans, focusing on foundational occupational environmental health and safety topics. The event brought together industrial hygienists and safety professionals for technical sessions, networking events and research presentations.
Educational programming on the first day spanned key areas of modern industrial hygiene practice. Technical sessions addressed respiratory protection, exposure assessments, indoor air quality, workplace mental health and emergency preparedness. Attendees also participated in forums covering chemical hazards, toxic substances control act regulations, combustible dust and noise dosimetry.
Federal research updates highlighted the afternoon schedule, with representatives from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health presenting recent data. The agency provided progress reports on the firefighter cancer registry, health hazard evaluations and ongoing investigations into engineered stone-related silicosis.
The conference also featured interactive technical demonstrations and specialized pavilions. Activities included an artificial intelligence and safety learning center, hands-on instrumentation demonstrations, and technical presentations on integrating remote capabilities with traditional air sampling technologies.
