An Introduction to the Safety Industry

For those of you who don't know, I'm Sydny Shepard, the soon-to-be Editor of Occupational Health & Safety upon Jerry Laws' retirement at the end of June. I have been working as an editor with 1105 Media, our parent company, for over three years and am truly excited about walking in Jerry's footsteps and working in a new and exciting industry.

While I have plenty of experience with trade shows, I have yet to find myself at a safety show, yet alone one that focuses on industrial hygiene. So, for my first big jump into the safety industry, I will be attending AIHce this week in Minneapolis. AIHce will be a great chance for me to familiarize myself with the industry while networking with safety professionals and building the relationships that will become invaluable to me in the future with OH&S.

I am excited to sit in educational sessions to gain a better understanding of industrial hygiene as well as stroll the show floor to learn more about the devices and solutions offered to industry professionals.

As you can tell, my trip to Minneapolis will not be wasted, it is going to be a real learning experience that will help me to jump start this new journey with OH&S. I am thrilled to be here in Minneapolis with all of you and even more excited for what the future holds..

I will follow up in our final newsletter from AIHce with my first impressions, what I learned and my favorite parts of the show. Until then, have fun at AIHce!.
