Safety & Security: Tips for Preventing Workplace Violence

Lowering the number of instances of workplace violence is not only crucial to the health and safety of your workforce, but is also legally mandated by federal OSHA.

In February of this year, three employees were behind the counter of a B-Quik gas station in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when a customer entered into the store with a knife. The situation quickly turned dangerous when the customer began to stab the gas station’s assistant manager multiple times.

Stories like these are unfortunately not uncommon. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is reminding companies that they do still have a duty to ensure that workers are safe from incidents of violence.

On this podcast we have focused on many types of hazards in the workplace that can lead to serious injuries and fatalities, but we’ve yet to talk about workplace violence, which is one of the leading causes of occupational fatalities in the United States.
