OSHA Awards Millions to Nonprofit Organizations

The $11.2 million in grants is funded by the Susan Harwood Training Grants Program.

OSHA awarded about $11.2 million dollars to 90 nonprofit organizations across the country through Susan Harwood federal safety and health training grants.

The grants will supply education and training programs for employers and employees to help them recognize serious workplace hazards, injury prevention measures and their rights and responsibilities under 1970’s Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Eighty grants were awarded by OSHA under President Trump’s Qualified Opportunity Zones Executive Order to conduct occupational health and safety training in urban and economically distressed areas. The awards for this year also funded 12 targeted-topic training grants and four training and education materials development grants that relate to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Susan Harwood Training Grants Program honors the late former director of OSHA’s Office of Risk Assessment. The award categories for the 2020 fiscal year are Targeted Topic Training, Training and Educational Materials Development and Capacity Building.
