Maine Department of Labor Offers Free Workplace Safety Training
February classes cover mine safety, respiratory protection, industrial hygiene, and fire department operations.

The Maine Department of Labor is offering a series of free workplace safety and health training classes in February aimed at employers, safety professionals, and workers across the state.
The sessions are part of the department’s SafetyWorks! program and cover topics including mine safety and health, respiratory protection, air and noise hazard monitoring, and fire department operations for smaller departments.
Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) refresher training, required annually for surface mining operations such as stone crushing and gravel pits, is scheduled for Feb. 3 and Feb. 18. A respiratory protection course focused on written program requirements is planned for Feb. 5.
A session on monitoring and evaluating air and noise hazards, a core component of industrial hygiene programs, will be held on Feb. 17. In addition, the department is offering a two-day fire department operations course designed for smaller departments.

The department encourages employers and workers to take advantage of the free training opportunities to strengthen workplace safety programs and support compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
