Respirator Fit Testing Using OSHA Appendix Respiratory Protection Program

Date: Thursday February 12, 2026 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT

Proper respirator fit is the foundation of effective respiratory protection. Even the highest-quality respirator cannot protect a worker from hazardous contaminants if it does not seal correctly to the face. That’s why OSHA requires fit testing for tight-fitting respirators—and why safety leaders must understand not just that fit testing is required, but how it should be performed to ensure real-world protection, compliance, and worker confidence.

In this webinar, you’ll take a practical, standards-based look at OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard, with a specific focus on Appendix A, which outlines the mandatory procedures for both qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing. Using Appendix A as a roadmap, this session will show how proper fit testing strengthens the overall Respiratory Protection Program by improving consistency, reducing errors, preventing false passes, and supporting defensible compliance during audits or inspections.

Attendees will learn:

  • Why proper respirator fit is critical to worker safety, and where fit testing often goes wrong
  • How OSHA Appendix A governs qualitative and quantitative fit testing procedures
  • Key differences between fit factors, protection factors, and assigned protection factors (APFs)
  • Common equipment, environmental, and user-related issues that can invalidate fit tests
  • How fit testing integrates with training, medical evaluations, and recordkeeping requirements
