Deep Dive Breakout Sessions Rounded Out Safety+ 2025

Safety+ 2025 closed with sessions on confined space hazards and strategies for stronger safety communication.

Safety+ 2025 wrapped up with powerful breakout sessions on confined space hazards and safety communication strategies, giving attendees practical tools to strengthen workplace safety culture.

Confined Spaces

Eighty-nine percent of confined space fatalities occurred during jobs authorized by supervisors, and 80% happened in locations that had previously been entered by the same person who later died. Attendees learned that while entry into an enclosed space might be possible, a safe exit was not always guaranteed. This session helped participants understand the hazards associated with confined spaces and the procedures employers had in place to protect workers and those around them—knowledge that could mean the difference between life and death.
By the end of the course, participants were able to:

  • Understand the hazards associated with confined spaces and the procedures in place to protect themselves and coworkers.
  • Analyze and address the dangers of a permit-required confined space.
  • Recognize and mitigate the risks of confined space entry.

From Ignored to Impactful to Engaging – Transforming Safety Communication

Safety professionals often faced the challenge of ensuring that their critical messages were heard and acted upon—and many had experienced the frustration of feeling unheard. Even though everyone agreed that safety was important, capturing the attention and commitment of employees and management alike was no small feat.

This session explored common communication obstacles and offered strategies, grounded in Dale Carnegie principles, to transform safety messages from overlooked reminders into impactful calls to action. Attendees learned how to craft compelling safety communications, use storytelling to make safety relatable, and leverage various channels to maximize reach and engagement. Real-world examples and interactive discussions helped participants understand how to foster a safety culture that resonates across an organization.

By the end of the session, attendees could:

  • Identify and practice key principles for building connection and rapport.
  • Demonstrate skills for engaging and connecting with an audience.
  • Integrate storytelling techniques into communication and presentations.
  • Apply techniques to make presentations memorable rather than forgettable.

Together, these sessions left Safety+ 2025 attendees with practical skills and fresh perspectives they could immediately bring back to their organizations—reinforcing the event’s mission to elevate workplace safety culture nationwide.
