During a June 2022 inspection at a Thomasville, Georgia, store, OSHA found merchandise obstructing both an electrical panel and an emergency exit, according to a news release. OSHA cited the company for two repeat violations and proposed penalties of $290,054.

Since the beginning of 2022, Dollar General has been cited more than five times by OSHA. A store in Pennsylvania was cited for two repeat violations and recieved proposed penalties of $136,741; worker exposure to hazards at three Georgia stores led to citations for four willful and seven repeat violations and proposed penalties of $1,292,783; an inspection at an Ohio store led to citations for four repeat violations and proposed penalties of $341,842; and Dollar General Corp became eligible for OSHA’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program after citations for 11 willful, 16 repeat and four serious violations and proposed penalties of $2,777,640 were issued after inspections in southeastern stores.

"Dollar General has a long history of disregarding safety measures that could compromise the well-being of the people who work there, and that has to change," said OSHA Regional Administrator Kurt Petermeyer in Atlanta in the news release. "The violations cited in these investigations are preventable, and OSHA will make every effort to hold Dollar General accountable for their failures."
