Three Dollar General Stores Cited for Four Willful, Seven Repeat Violations

OSHA Cites Three Dollar Generals, Proposes Penalties Over $1.2M

Since 2016, the company has faced proposed penalties of over $6 million.

Three Georgia Dollar Generals are facing over $1,00,000 in proposed penalties and 11 citations after inspections this year.

According to a news release, OSHA inspected stores in Pembroke, Hogansville and Smyrna, Georgia, and found workers exposed to many hazards. The agency cited the stores for unclean receiving areas, unsafe stacked boxes and blocked “exit route and electrical panels,” the press release said.

The citations total four willful and seven repeat violations, and proposed penalties total $1,292,783.

"Dollar General continues to demonstrate a willful pattern of ignoring hazardous working conditions and a disregard for the well-being of its employees," said Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Doug Parker in the press release. "Despite similar citations and sizable penalties in more than 70 inspections, the company refuses to change its business practices. OSHA will take all necessary enforcement actions and pursue all available remedies against Dollar General until it fixes the disconnect between its business model and worker safety."

Since 2017, OSHA has proposed penalties for Dollar General stores across the country totaling more than $6.5 million, according to the press release. Dollar General has about 17,000 stores in the United States.
