Combustible Dust: Sampling, Testing and Removal with Dr. Russell Ogle

Editor Sydny Shepard and Dr. Russell Ogle get into the nitty gritty of understanding the kinds of dust present in your facility.

I’m sure by the title of this podcast, you can tell that today we are going to be talking about combustible dust. Dusts in general are a topic that we have covered on the podcast before, but it has been about a year since we have specifically covered combustible dust.

On this episode, I am joined by Dr. Russell Ogle, Principal Engineer and Practice Director at Exponent. He is the perfect person to talk to about combustible dust as he has over 30 years of industrial hygiene experience working in fire, explosion and chemical safety. He’s investigated hundreds of fires and explosions in industrial, commercial and residential settings.

In our interview today, Dr. Ogle and I get into the nitty gritty of understanding the kinds of dust present in your facility.

How do you sample and test dusts? If combustible dust is present, how do you get rid of it safely? What elements need to be present to ignite combustible dust, leading to fires or even an explosion? These questions and more answered in the podcast!
