EUROCONTROL Handled Record Volume of Flights in July
Flight traffic in July 2017 was up about 5 percent from 2016. July 2017's millionth flight milestone was passed on July 30.
In July, for the first time ever, EUROCONTROL air traffic controllers handled one million flights in a month across their network, which stretches from Ireland to Armenia and from Morocco to Finland. Flight traffic in July was up about 5 percent from 2016, and on several days more than 35,000 flights took place.
July's millionth flight milestone was passed on July 30. "The European ATM system is now handling record numbers of flights. This demonstrates how important the pan-European network approach is for managing our busy skies. EUROCONTROL as Network Manager works closely with all our partners across Europe and beyond to help over a billion passengers a year get to their destination as efficiently as possible," said Joe Sultana, Network Manager director.
The Network Manager was established by the European Commission to contribute to the performance of the European ATM network, and the commission nominated EUROCONTROL as the Network Manager in July 2011, with a mandate that runs until Dec. 31, 2019. EUROCONTROL is currently in the process of re-designation for the period beyond 2019.
