HIOSH Sets Recordkeeping Rule Hearing

The Dec. 28 hearing concerns proposed amendments to bring the HIOSH standards into conformity with federal OSHA's standards for recording and reporting occupational injuries and illnesses.

A public hearing will be held Dec. 28 in Honolulu by the Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division (HIOSH) on proposed rules for Chapter 12-52.1, "Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses," of the Hawaii Administrative Rules.

HIOSH is part of the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR).

The hearing concerns proposed amendments to bring the HIOSH standards into conformity with federal OSHA's standards for recording and reporting occupational injuries and illnesses. Because the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 allows Hawaii and other state plan states to operate their own occupational safety and health programs as long as their safety and health standards are "at least as effective in providing safe and healthful employment or places of employment" as the federal OSHA standards, HIOSH must adopt the OSHA standards.

A copy of the proposed rule changes will be made available for public viewing in several locations, and the proposed rules are available online at http://labor.hawaii.gov/hiosh/proposed-rules/.
