The free "Standing Their Ground: Tejanos at the Alamo" exhibit will end June 6.

Alamo Attractions During AIHce 2014

The old mission in downtown San Antonio is featuring a living history demonstration on June 2 and a "Standing Their Ground: Tejanos at the Alamo" exhibit through June 6.

The battle at the Alamo was a key event in 1836 during the Texas Revolution to secede from Mexico, and the mission remains a popular tourist destination in downtown San Antonio. There are an exhibit and living history demonstration taking place there during AIHce 2014, which is just a few blocks away early next month at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

The free exhibit is named "Standing Their Ground: Tejanos at the Alamo." It began in February 2014 and will end June 6. It is the third exhibit mounted by the Alamo and the Texas General Land Office, and the Alamo's description says it is "ambitious, seeking to not only honor the Tejano Alamo defenders, but to portray them as real people using details from their own writings, rare and historic documents and personal mementos." No photography is allowed.

Eight Tejano defenders died during the 1836 battle at the mission.

The living history demonstration by John and Carol Potter will take place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 2.

The Alamo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays during the month of June.
