EPA Sets Meeting on Formaldehyde Proposed Rule

The public and stakeholders also have 30 days in which to comment about the NPRM issued in June 2013.

EPA has scheduled a public meeting for April 28 to get comments and input about a rulemaking proposal that concerns formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products. The meeting will take place in Washington, D.C., from 1-3:30 p.m.; requests to participate in the meeting must be received on or before April 21.

Companies that manufacture or sell composite wood products and related materials – furniture, veneer, plywood, even mobile homes and prefabricated buildings – will be affected by the proposed rule.

In its notice announcing the meeting and an additional 30 days in which stakeholders and the public can comment about the NPRM issued in June 2013, EPA states that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) provided comments that EPA wants to consider in developing the final regulation. EPA also seeks more public input about how laminated products should be treated in (or exempted from) the regulation.
