Cheese Recalled for Possible Listeria

Roos Foods recalls even more cheese products for possible listeria contamination.

Roos Foods, based in Kenton, Del., has recalled even more cheese products, according to Food Safety News. The voluntary recall has been expanded to include more products than initially thought because the company believes certain products are potentially contaminated with listeria.

According to Food Safety News, so far one death and eight illnesses have been reported as a result of the products. The company has recalled products that were distributed in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The following products were added to the recall:

  • All product sizes and containers of Santa Rosa de Lima Queso Duro Blando (hard cheese).
  • All product sizes and containers of Mexicana Queso Cojito Molido.

The recall previously included "Roos Foods' Amigo, Anita, Mexicana, and Santa Rose de Lima brands of: Cuajada En Terron, Cuajada/Cuajadita Cacer, Cuajada Fresca, Queso Fresco Round, and Queso Duro Viejo (hard cheeses), Requeson, Queso de Huerta and Quesco Fresco cheeses." The company has recalled several other products, as well, including most sour cream products.

Listeria, while not too severe in adults with healthy immune systems, can lead to fatal infections in children, the elderly, and in people with weakened immune systems. For complete details on the recall, visit foodsafetynews.com.
