Chemical Safety: What your Program may be Missing

It’s easy to overlook chemicals used for cleaning, maintenance or repairs in your chemical safety and hazard communication programs. Many of these chemicals are consumer products that can be purchased at a local hardware store. The OSHA hazard communication standard includes article and consumer product exemptions so many of the OSHA requirements may not seem to apply. Labeling may not include the same warnings and pictograms we are accustomed to for industrial chemicals.

Many of these products can present significant health and safety risks. This includes flammable solvents, compressed gases, oxidizers and poisons. Do you know what chemicals your contractors or janitorial service are storing and using in your facility?

In this webinar we will review some of the differences between OSHA, consumer product, and other labeling requirements. The hazards of some common maintenance chemicals will be reviewed. How OSHA article and consumer product exemptions apply, or don’t apply, will also be discussed.
