The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has concentrated on providing career development services to its members and in particular at this week’s Safety 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, it carried that out by providing a Career Development Center.
Found on the expo floor at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center during the June 5-7 event, the center offers a range of services including presentations on professional growth, a photo studio for professional head shots, and booths from companies showcasing a number of offerings. Those offerings included job openings, resume services, recruiting services, and information on charting a career path.
One of the real hits has been the photo booth, noted Christine Sullivan, CSP, ARM, president of the ASSP.
“We’re offering people an opportunity to get a professional headshot that they can put on their LinkedIn page,” she explained. “Some of those members will never have that opportunity without going to pay a photographer. So we're trying to do that for them and help them up their career game to the next level.”
Sullivan added the Career Development Center is part of an ongoing emphasis by the ASSP to help young safety professionals.
“Bringing young professionals into the organization and into the business is really important,” she explained. “So, we have an Emerging Professionals Group that is one of our common interest groups. And that group is really geared toward those that emerging professional and helping them grow in their career.”
