PGMA Seeking Comments on Portable Generator Standard Proposed Revisions

People interested in commenting can contact PGMA.

The Portable Generator Manufacturers' Association (PGMA) is seeking comments on proposed revisions to a portable generator standard.

According to a news release, the updates for BSR/PGMA G300-201x, Safety and Performance of Portable Generators Standard would focus on carbon monoxide, specifically the shutoff system requirements.

The organization is looking for “members” who are “users” to comment. What’s a user? “Those who are predominantly interested in the use of the product, materials, or services. This category usually includes consumers, customers of product producers, distributors, retailers, etc. and may include regulatory agencies, safety associations, certification agencies, and similar organizations,” PGMA said.

Those interested should email PGMA at [email protected] or call 216-241-7333 no later than January 31, 2023, for more information and to participate in the comment period.

From 2011 to 2021, 770 people died from carbon monoxide in incidents involving generators, averaging out to about 77 per year, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported.
