Struck-By Hazards

Struck-By Hazards

Event is hosted to spread awareness about deadly accidents.

Since 1992, the leading cause of death and non-fatal injuries are caused by struck-by incidents. According to OSHA, the four most common struck-by hazards include: struck by a falling, flying, swinging or rolling objects.

The National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents was created by the NORA Construction Sector Council. The virtual event is taking initiatives to increase awareness of hazards and ways to prevent them.

This is the second year the event will take place. It will be on April 26, 2021 – the first day of Work Zone Awareness Week. NORA will be hosting two webinars.

This year’s focus will be to include lift zones in addition to work zones. In the first webinar, industry stakeholders will be sharing their thoughts on the responsibilities of a lift director and the basics to look out for in lift zones.

They will also be talking about accidents and issues that have been come across and the best safety practices. For the second webinar, the panel will discuss its first-hand struck-by experiences, where they will also provide information on ways to prevent these mistakes in the future.
