Top 5 COVID-19 Vaccination Plans By State

The vaccination process has been slower than originally expected, but there are five states that are on top of distributing the coronavirus vaccine.

Since the Moderna and Pfizer coronavirus vaccines obtained emergency approval from the FDA in December, states have rolled out plans to vaccinate people based on factors like age and their status as essential workers.

States have separated their populations into “phases” to determine the order in which people will be vaccinated. There are various modes of progress as far as vaccinations across the United States, with some states having more comprehensive plans than others. As of Jan. 28, the federal government has delivered 48.4 million doses to states. Below are the five most detailed vaccination plans by state.

Alaska

Alaska has given out 105,858 shots, with 11.7 percent of people given at least one of the two doses required to make the vaccine fully effective. Those who are eligible to get vaccinated in Alaska are those aged 65 and above, healthcare workers and long term care residents and staff. Residents can use the state’s coronavirus resource webpage to find a vaccine provider.

West Virginia

West Virginia has given out 224,604 shots, and 9.7 percent of residents have gotten the first dose. People 65-years-old and older, along with care facility residents and employees, pharmacists and first responders are eligible. Eligible residents can pre-register to get vaccinated.

Connecticut

The state is currency in Phase 1b of its vaccination plan. This phase includes individuals who are 75 and above. The first phase included healthcare personnel, long-term care facility residents and first responders. So far, 8.8 percent of residents have been vaccinated and 381,160 shots have been given.

New Mexico

New Mexico is allowing the elderly, care facility residents, first responders, hospice workers and those over the age of 16 who have pre-existing conditions. The state’s vaccination is split up into two phases—Phase 1A and Phase 1B. In total, 224,692 shots have been given and 8.6 percent of residents have received at least one shot.

North Dakota

North Dakota has given 80,051 shots and vaccinated 7.9 percent of its residents. There is a vaccination guidance on the state’s official website, along with a vaccine locator that directs people to vaccination locations.
