Employees Filed Hundreds of Worker Safety Lawsuits in 2020

Out of over 1,000 workplace lawsuits that were filed, 200 concerned coronavirus safety protocols.

Over 1,000 work-related lawsuits were filed in 2020 since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, according to USA Today.

Between 1,005 and 1,425 workplace lawsuits have been filed in connection to COVID-19, with more expected to surface this year. Of the lawsuits, 690 pertained to layoffs and firings.

About 200 of the lawsuits dealt with workplace safety. Employees that filed the lawsuits claimed they were not given adequate PPE, nor did their employers comply with sanitation protocols, mask-wearing or temperature checks.

In addition to these worker safety lawsuits being filed last year, OSHA issued coronavirus citations that resulted in $3.8 million in penalties.
