Countless safety professionals from around the country joined the American Society of Safety Professionals for its annual Safety 2020 Conference & Expo – this year from their home or office chairs via an online virtual conference platform. The three-day event went off without a hitch, with sessions being streamed in online classrooms, attendees virtually interacting with exhibitors and virtual networking events bringing safety professionals together in a way that made sense in this COVID-19 world.
When ASSP made the decision to shift to a fully virtual event months ago, it was careful to include parts of the in-person event that would help attendees feel like they were actually attending the event, gaining invaluable safety education and learning from safety manufactures in the expo hall. I had the pleasure of attending several sessions, both live and at my own pace, and the online conference experience was, for lack of a better word, easy.
As I am sure you all know, attending an in-person conference takes a lot out of you. From the travel, to the sleepless nights in hotels, to all the walking – tradeshows can drain your body of the energy you need to learn, network and browse products and services. For me, however, the ability to sit in on pre-recorded session presentations and chat with the speakers throughout the scheduled session hour was valuable. The ability to pause the presentation to take notes, or rewind when something needed to be reviewed, was very helpful to my learning process.
What is even more helpful to the learning process, however, is the fact that all the sessions from the ASSP Safety 2020 Virtual conference will be online and available to attendees for 60 days following the conference. That means safety professionals have the ability to earn up to 6.5 CEUs from this event. This is an outstanding takeaway and amazing opportunity given by ASSP, who normally can only offer 1.5 CEUs for an in-person event.
For those of you who missed out on ASSP Safety 2020 Virtual, next year, the American Society of Safety Professionals are planning to come back with its in-person event in Denver, Colo. June 6 – 9, 2021. For information on how to become a speaker at the next ASSP conference, visit www.assp.org.
