$48.1 Million in Grants to be Awarded for Workforce Reintegration of Homeless Veterans

The U.S. Department of Labor announced that $48.1 Million in the form of 149 Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program grants will be awarded to organizations, public agencies, boards, and governments.

One hundred forty-nine Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) grants totaling $48.1 million will be awarded to organizations, public agencies, boards, and governments, according to U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta. The funding will provide workforce reintegration services for more than 18,000 homeless veterans.

Through the program, homeless veterans may receive a number of services, including occupational skills, apprenticeship opportunities, and on-the-job training as well as job search and placement assistance.

The award will be given on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, and faith-based and community organizations.

Fifty-one first-year grants totaling $16.9 million will be given in addition to first- and second- option year grants, which will be given to previous awardees, totaling $31.2 million.

The highest amount of funding organizations are receiving in the “Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program: 2019 Award Recipients,” and “Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program: Option-Year Awards” categories is $500,000. Organizations can receive grants from both categories.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, grantees in the HVRP program will network and coordinate their efforts with other federal programs such as the Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care Program.
