Atlanta Declared 'No Drone Zone' During Super Bowl LIII Events

The FAA will establish a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) on game day that will prohibit drones within a 30-nautical-mile radius of the stadium, up to 17,999 feet in altitude.

The Federal Aviation Administration has declared the airspace around Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta a "No Drone Zone" during Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3, 2019, and during the three days preceding the event, the administration announced Jan. 28.

The FAA will establish a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) on game day that will prohibit drones within a 30-nautical-mile radius of the stadium, up to 17,999 feet in altitude. The TFR will be in place from 5:30 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Some general aviation operations may be allowed if they meet specific requirements for security and operation.

Drone flights will also be restricted for one nautical mile around the stadium up to an altitude of 1,000 feet on Jan. 31, Feb. 1, and Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 11:50 p.m. Eastern Time, and on Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., at which time the TFR for the game itself begins.

Drone operators and pilots who enter the TFRs without authorization could face civil penalties in excess of $20,000 and potential criminal prosecution.

Detailed information for general aviation and drone pilots can be found at FAA's Super Bowl LIII page.
