The speakers at Safety+, which takes place Aug. 28-31 at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., include Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam; Phyllis L. Bayer, assistant secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations and Environment); and Steve Hawkins, Tennessee Occupational Safety & Health Administration assistant commissioner.

The Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association announced its lineup of speakers headlining its Safety+ national symposium this month.

Safety+ will take place Aug. 28-31 at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. The lineup of keynote and main session speakers includes Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam; Phyllis L. Bayer, assistant secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations and Environment); and Steve Hawkins, the Tennessee Occupational Safety & Health Administration's assistant commissioner, who is the keynote speaker for the Safety+ Closing General Session.

Haslam already has proclaimed the week of Aug. 27-31 as Safety and Health in the Workplace Week across the state with a proclamation noting that VPPPA's Symposium (#VPPPA2018) is being held in partnership with the Tennessee Safety and Health Conference (#TSHC2018). "Each year the TSHC organizes a very successful conference, with more than 700 attendees," said Hawkins. "By teaming up with VPPPA, we are able to triple the size of our typical conference, therefore bringing that much more information and training to safety and health professionals in Tennessee."

"This year's national gathering of safety professionals in Nashville has the potential to truly make Tennessee's workplaces safer," Hawkins added. "This is the first time so much information and knowledge has been less than a half day's drive away for every person responsible for safety and health in the state's workplaces. I encourage everyone to attend."
