Each NORA research agenda is meant to guide or promote high priority research efforts on a national level.

It outlines suggested research work to improve both health care workers' and their patients' safety, prevent workplace violence in health care settings, and improve infection control in health care workplaces, as well as determine the impact of strategies and technologies for preventing sharps injuries. Other objectives in the document involve safe patient handling, preventing slips and falls, and preventing exposures to hazardous drugs and chemicals in health care, veterinary care, home care, daycare, and other social services.
