CSB Investigating Oklahoma Gas Well Explosion

After being notified about the explosion, CSB deployed two investigators to gather additional facts. Investigators arrived on site Jan. 24 and met with the lease holder for the well and the drilling operator.

With the recent federal government shutdown over, for now, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board announced Jan. 25 that that it will conduct a full investigation into the fatal Jan. 22 gas well explosion near Quinton, Okla., that killed five workers.

KTUL reported that Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris released the victims' names: Josh Ray of Fort Worth, Texas; Matt Smith of McAlester, Okla.; Cody Risk of Wellington, Colo.; Parker Waldridge of Crescent, Okla.; and Roger Cunningham of Seminole, Okla.

The board's announcement said its investigators will continue to meet with well service providers and the well site consultant company that had employees on site at the time of the incident.
