Coast Guard Recognizes Ports of NY, NJ, and Albany
The awards were presented Oct. 11 at a meeting that brought together maritime companies in the private sector and law enforcement agencies from the New York and New Jersey area to discuss actions taken to mitigate current maritime threats.
The U.S. Coast Guard presented the Ports of New York, New Jersey, and Albany with the Area Maritime Security Committee of the Year Award at an Oct. 11 meeting in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Coast Guard's announcement said Area Maritime Security Committees bring federal, state, local, and tribal government and industry partners together to collaborate on maritime security; they create partnerships and networks, share information, conduct training, assess vulnerabilities, and mitigate risks in support of the Area Maritime Security Plan.
The Brooklyn meeting brought together maritime companies in the private sector and law enforcement agencies from the surrounding New York and New Jersey area to discuss actions taken to mitigate current maritime threats. Awards also were presented to the New York Police Department Aviation, Harbor, and Counterterrorism Units and the New York Fire Department Harbor Unit and Jersey City Fire Department for heroic maritime actions during the past year.
