Airline Bumping Rate in Q1 2017 Equal to Previous Year

The bumping rate, aka the number of passengers involuntarily denied boarding, was 0.62 per 10,000 passengers.

The DOT has released its May 2017 Air Travel Consumer Report, announcing that the bumping rate for flights in Q1 2017 was the same as Q1 in 2016 at 0.62 per 10,000 passengers. An on-time arrival rate of 79.9 percent was achieved in March 2017, down from the previous year which was 81.5 percent.

Meanwhile, 1.8 percent of scheduled domestic flights were canceled in March 2017, up from the 1.0 percent rate achieved in March 2016.
