Scary Good: NSC 2016 Opens in Anaheim

There are always signs and hints of Halloween when the biggest U.S. safety trade show of the year takes place in October, and there is plenty of Halloween activity in store this month in the Anaheim area, as well.

It's mid-October, fall is in the air, and the 2016 National Safety Congress & Expo is opening its doors today to thousands of safety professionals and representatives of manufacturers and distributors at the Anaheim Convention Center. There are always signs and hints of Halloween when the biggest U.S. safety trade show of the year takes place in October, and there is plenty of Halloween activity in store this month in the Anaheim area, as well.

A helpful blog post from Visit Anaheim lists the biggest events, including Knott's Scary Farm and Knott's Spooky Farm, Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland, Brick or Treat at LEGOLAND, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, Scarium of the Pacific, and the 92nd Annual Anaheim Halloween Parade on Oct. 29.

The most frightening part of this season, at least to its fans, is that the Disney California Adventure park's Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ ride is soon to be closed for good. The attraction is operating for the last time on Jan. 2, 2017, and Disney is celebrating it during Halloween Time through Oct. 31. Since Sept. 9 and during the NSC show, park guests can enjoy "Late Check-Out" and experience the Tower of Terror in complete darkness, Erin Glover, Editorial Content director for Disneyland Resort, reported in September.

The NSC highlights include Terry Bradshaw as keynote speaker during the Oct. 17 opening session, sharing a stage with National Safety Council President & CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman; six Journey to Safety Excellence sessions; nine NSC Learning Lab Sessions on the expo floor; and an Oct. 19 technical tour beginning at 9 a.m. behind the scenes of the convention center's safety and sustainability programs (including the largest roof-mounted solar array on a municipally owned convention center in North America, according to the advance program).

The convention center is located across Katella Avenue from the Disneyland complex.

Expo hours are:

  • 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17
  • 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Oct. 18
  • 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Oct. 19
