OSHA Appoints New Construction Directorate Chief

Dean McKenzie has more than 40 years of experience in construction, having started in the steel mills of Gary, Ind., as a journeyman millwright in the mid-1970s.

OSHA has appointed a new director for its Directorate of Construction, with Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels announcing he has selected Dean McKenzie to fill that position. McKenzie was the director of OSHA's Office of Construction Services in 2012-2013 and became the deputy director in 2013; he has been its acting director since January 2016.

He has more than 40 years of experience in construction, having started in the steel mills of Gary, Ind., as a journeyman millwright in the mid-1970s. McKenzie later worked in construction in Indiana, Florida, Colorado, and the Caribbean and has been a licensed general contractor, business owner, and project and operations manager, according to OSHA's announcement, which said McKenzie has taken a lead role in the annual Stand Down to Prevent Falls in Construction campaigns.

"Dean has been a valuable member of the OSHA team. I congratulate him on his new position, and I am confident he will continue with his forward thinking and innovative leadership in DOC," Michaels said.
