FAA Administrator Talks Safety at AirVenture

Michael Huerta discussed the importance of collaboration in Oshkosh, Wis.

FAA Administrator Michael Huerta discussed the importance of collaboration between government and industry at the big EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wis. He highlighted a number of initiatives, such as the ADS-B Out purchasing, Got Data? Access Initiative, and new Airman Certification Standards.

The FAA is offering a $500 rebate to offset the cost of ADS-B equipment, an integrated system that includes ADS-B. The agency is offering 20,000 rebates on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Got Data? External Data Access Initiative hopes to increase and improve the public's access to FAA data.

"The passion that drives pilots to fly here, year after year, is the same passion that fuels so much of the work we do every day at the FAA," Huerta said. "We're committed to making general aviation safer and more efficient and we're making a lot of progress. Collaboration between the FAA and industry is allowing the GA community to benefit from upgraded technology, lower costs, and higher levels of safety."

The new Airman Certification Standards give pilots, instructors, and evaluators a single source of clear, logical standards that tell them what they need to know, consider, and do to qualify and pass tests for certification.
