NTSB Conducting Accident Site Photography Course Next Month

The July 12-14 course will give students an overview of photographic procedures and techniques focused on documenting transportation accident investigations in photos.

The National Transportation Safety Board is offering an accident site photography course soon at its Ashburn, Va., training center. The July 12-14 course will give students an overview of photographic procedures and techniques focused on documenting transportation accident investigations in photos. Topics presented in the course include: 1) principles of digital imaging, including camera usage, elements of exposure, and lighting; 2) advanced accident site photography, including positional references, authenticity, and photo reality; and 3) digital image processing, including file types, image size, and image correction.

NTSB said students will get to practice their skills through a hands-on wreckage documentation exercise, and anyone may register for the course -- it is not limited to federal employees, although the course material is designed for NTSB investigators; federal, state, and local investigators; law enforcement officers; safety and private investigators; inspectors and others, including those outside the field of transportation who want to enhance their photography skills.

To register for the course, visit this website. The cost is $1,248.
