NPPTL Issues Counterfeit Respirator Notice

The agency has issued a counterfeit N95 respirator notice for the second time since early April.

According to the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the NIOSH National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) has issued a counterfeit N95 respirator notice for the second time since early April. The agency says the counterfeit respirator is being sold and marketed as NIOSH-approved, even though the manufacturer is not a private label holder or a NIOSH approval holder.

The agency also contends that the manufacturer, Wein Products, is misrepresenting NIOSH approval on the company's website. All approvals for Wein Products were rescinded in 2011.

NIOSH recommends checking the respirator approval markings or the Certified Equipment List to verify whether a respirator is approved.
