Federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are closed on Monday, Jan. 25, as the area continues to dig out from the weekend blizzard that dumped 20 inches or more on the city. Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agencies' policies, including written telework agreements, according to a notice posted on the Office of Personnel Management's website.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, known as Metro, is a key transportation service for the area, and it plans to resume limited service on Jan. 25 and will not charge fares during the day. WMATA's rail system will be open between 7 a.m. and midnight with limited underground service on the Red, Orange, and Green lines, while service on the Silver, Blue, and Yellow lines will remain suspended.

Metro's trains will run every 20-25 minutes at the start of the day's service, and the authority said its service levels may be upgraded as conditions allow.

"For your safety, travel only if necessary," WMATA cautioned its its online message.
