AIHce 2015: GHS Fills the Hall
Educational sessions, product demonstrations, and many exhibitors are focused on helping OSH professionals comply with the new OSHA HazCom Standard.
SALT LAKE CITY -- Call it great timing: With one of the important deadlines in OSHA's revised Hazard Communication Standard arriving on June 1, 2015, the first big day of the AIHce 2015 conference and expo, there are many sources attendees can tap for information about compliance.
The June 1 deadline was the date by which chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors, and employers are required to comply with OSHA's revised standard (except that distributors have six more months to ensure they do not ship containers labeled by a chemical manufacturer or importer unless it is a GHS label). MSDSonline President Glenn Trout recently reported that many chemical manufacturers and importers will miss this important deadline, delaying downstream end users' ability to get their own inventories of chemicals and Safety Data Sheets in GHS-compliant order.
There are at least 13 exhibitors focused on GHS compliance products and services at AIHce 2015, which is taking place in Salt Lake City's downtown Salt Palace Convention Center. GHS was or is the subject of two pre-conference educational sessions last Saturday, four product demonstrations on Monday and Tuesday this week, and also a Tuesday "deep dive session" from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. titled "GHS Implementation: The First Wave After the Tsunami --The Work is Just Beginning."
