NSC Raises Apple Watch Concerns

The council expressed concern about owners' use of the watch while driving.

The National Safety Council released a statement timed to the official release of the new Apple watch, saying it is concerned about the risks of using a smart watch while driving. According to the statement, numerous studies have shown that drivers using cell phones significantly increase their risk of being involved in a crash. Smart watches could be even riskier, according to some studies.

Drivers wearing smart watches can call, text, email, and surf the web, and the watch also vibrates when it receives notifications. That vibration, the NSC says, could be very difficult to ignore, which could take the driver's eyes off the road and his/her mind off the drive.
